Kay’s Blog

As has been the case with all dance teams, this year’s dance programme was decimated by the Lockdown, with all performances cancelled. We were looking forward to a busy dance season, which would have included performing locally and in Marsden, Holmfirth, Scarborough, Lytham St Annes, Whitby, Settle and Poulton le Fylde.

As holders of the Yorkshire Coast Morris’ Gordon Crowther Staff in 2019, we would normally have handed it over to the 2020 winners at the Scarborough Weekend of Dance in early July. Of course this was not possible this year, and the winning team was chosen virtually from on-line submissions of performances. Newburgh Morris were the winners and Helen recently made the trip to Lancashire to hand over the Staff.

We’ve kept in touch via WhatsApp and enjoyed a couple of socially distanced picnics – one in Roberts Park, Saltaire and one in Marsden Park, where we toasted Mac’s “special” birthday. During August we took advantage of the light evenings to meet up and practice – socially distancing of course – in Roberts Park. It was wonderful to dance with each other again. There’s no knowing when we’ll all be performing again but let’s hope that it won’t be too long.
