Summer 2019 Update

Dancing at the Bandstand in Roberts Park with Buttercross Belles

A lovely summer’s evening – we enjoyed dancing with several other teams in such a lovely spot.

Friday to Sunday, 21 – 23rd June

Yorkshire Coast Weekend, Scarborough

Although several members of the team have enjoyed participating in this event in Scarborough in the past as part of Rainbow Morris, it was a first for Fiddle ‘n’ Feet.  At the pub get together on Friday evening, we joined several other teams for an evening of music and socializing.  It was great to be able to catch up with old friends.  We did some impromptu dancing on the lovely wooden floor – we went down very well!

Saturday morning saw all teams gathering in Peaseholme Park.  We enjoyed dancing in such lovely surroundings.  We danced by the harbour in the afternoon to an appreciative crowd.  At the evening ceilidh we enjoyed home made food prepared by our hosts and a few ceilidh dances.  Musician Mac was persuaded to sing his popular “Lidl Aldi” song.  Unbeknown to him, we dancers had prepared a skit – holding up various drawings of items of merchandise behind him as he mentioned them (inflatable dinghy, hairy bacon….!).  It went down a storm.

Scarborough Castle was the setting for Sunday morning – a wonderful place with fantastic views.  In the afternoon, all teams met at the harbour for more dancing, including their showcase dances.  Then came the annual presentation of the Gordon Crowther Staff, awarded to the team who showed the most “spirit of the dance”.  WE WON IT!!!!  How proud were we!  We all then processed on to the beach to dance the Dorset Four Hand Reel as usual, following which dancers from all teams formed a circle around the musicians to sing Auld Lang Syne.  At last – the run into the sea!  Helen B had provided blue short leggings to tuck our dresses into and had made gorgeous blue sparkly handkerchiefs for us all – we joined hands and the run began, followed by a “splash about” rendition of the Circle Dance!

We had a wonderful weekend and look forward to returning next year.  “Gordon” will have a great year, being wielded proudly at dance outs.

Saturday, 28th September

Mucky Mountains Morris Weekend of Dance, St Helens

At the start of the day we once again enjoyed refreshments in the Quaker Meeting Rooms – the oldest building in St Helens.  Although the terrible weather forced us indoors, we were lucky to have the opportunity to dance with several other teams in the Glass Museum.  At one point musicians from several teams took advantage of the “echo” quality of the large disused kiln which now forms part of the entrance to the museum.  The music they produced was magical.  Lunch in the café was also good!
